How much is defective hardware still worth?
It's clearest with examples: a current graphics card with a rattling fan is, minus the fan and the labour, manageable and easy to calculate; a GPU with no image or with artefacts brings noticeably less – but by no means nothing, because such faults often sit at component level and can usually be repaired. And the more current the generation, the higher the value; the same applies to motherboards.
When a repair pays off
Rough rule: if the used value of your hardware in working condition is clearly above the repair costs, the repair is worth it – for instance with Ryzen CPUs that have pin damage or expensive boards with CPU socket damage. With old or cheap parts the repair quickly exceeds the residual value.
When selling is the better choice
If you're upgrading anyway, no longer need the device or simply don't have a good feeling about a repaired part. Selling is also worthwhile when the repair would cost almost the used value – then more is left over from selling as-is than from the repaired part.
Selling privately as "defective" – the underestimated risk
Of course you can offer defective hardware on classifieds or eBay. The reality there: post-sale disputes ("mine works even less than described"), refund demands, fraud accusations, shipping-damage arguments – and as a private seller you should document every condition seamlessly to protect yourself. It is precisely this effort that a buyback with a pre-agreed fixed price saves you.
Three mistakes that ruin the residual value
- The oven trick. The tip of "baking" defective graphics cards in the oven does the rounds online. Even if the card runs briefly afterwards: the heat damages more overall than it briefly restores and the fault usually comes back – and on resale the intervention must be disclosed. A well-repairable defect thus quickly becomes a total loss.
- Running it to total failure. A device with early symptoms (crashes under load, artefacts, striking smells) does not get better by being pushed on – consequential damage eats up the residual value.
- Wild screwing and soldering attempts. Missing screws, scratched boards and bad solder joints turn "defective, untouched" into a "tinkerer's device" – the worst category in buyback.
"Is there still data on it?"
A common worry – and unfounded here: graphics cards, motherboards and CPUs do not store personal data permanently. Your files lie exclusively on SSDs and hard drives, and those stay with you. So you can hand over such components without hesitation.
And if it really is scrap?
Very old or worthless parts belong at the recycling centre. Large electronics retailers (from 400 m² of sales floor) must take back small devices up to 25 cm edge length – such as CPUs – even without a new purchase; larger parts such as ATX motherboards or long graphics cards go to the recycling centre. With us the rule is: if a buyback isn't worthwhile, we say so openly – in some cases we offer a free DHL label, i.e. a donation, so the hardware is at least recycled instead of ending up in the bin. Ich hatte den Lötservice bzw. Leiterbahn, weil bei mir mehrere Schichten durch waren. Die Elektronik habe ich selbst hin bekommen, aber kein Equipment für Leiterbahnen. Das wäre mir auch zu fummelig gewesen. Sieht gut aus 😊 Die Grafikkarte lebt wieder 👌 thx

Unser Löt- & Leiterbahn Service umfasst ausschließlich die handwerkliche und mechanische Platinenreparatur auf Bauteilebene. Keine elektronische Fehlersuche, keine Schaltplan-Diagnose, kein BGA-Reballing. Ausgeschlossen: 230V-Geräte, Akku-Geräte, KFZ-Steuergeräte, Medizintechnik, Rauchmelder. Durchtrennte Leiterbahnen werden mittels Kupferlackdraht (Jumper-Wire) überbrückt – funktional zuverlässig, jedoch nicht optisch makellos.
Anzahlung: 29,00 € Brutto zzgl. Rückversandkosten. Restbetrag erst nach erfolgreicher Reparatur. Bei Misserfolg: nur Anzahlung + Rückversand einbehalten.
Widerrufsverzicht (§ 356 Abs. 4 BGB): Mit Annahme des Angebots beginnt die Dienstleistung auf ausdrücklichen Wunsch des Kunden vor Ablauf der Widerrufsfrist. Das Widerrufsrecht erlischt bei vollständiger Erbringung. Rückversandkosten werden in jedem Fall einbehalten.

2. General Information
We only collect personal data to the extent necessary to operate this website, to provide our services — CPU pin repair, motherboard CPU socket repair, micro-soldering & PCB-trace repair, and buyback of defective hardware (EU-wide) — and to fulfil contracts. Legal bases are Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract), Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (legal obligation, e.g. retention requirements) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest, e.g. fraud prevention).
3. Server Log Files
When you visit this site, our hosting provider automatically logs data such as date/time, requested page, browser type and a shortened IP address. This data is used for technical operation and security; it is deleted or anonymised within 7 days at the latest.
4. Contact & Order Form
When you contact us via our form or place a repair order, a soldering enquiry or a hardware buyback request, we process — among other data — your name, email address, optionally a phone number, shipping and return address, hardware details, damage description and any photos you upload. For soldering orders we additionally process case-related data for the fixed-price agreement (token ID for the offer and remaining-balance email links, deposit and repair status). For bank-transfer payments we also process the transmitted payment data. This data is used to process your enquiry or order (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). After completion, data is deleted unless statutory retention periods apply (tax law: 10 years; commercial law: 6 years).
5. Reviews
When you submit a review, your name (or chosen display name) and review text will be publicly shown on this site. Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time by email to the address above.
6. Payment Processing
We use PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg) and bank transfer. For PayPal payments, the necessary transaction data is transmitted directly to PayPal. For details see PayPal's privacy policy: paypal.com/en/privacy-full. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
7. Shipping
To return repaired or purchased hardware we transmit your shipping address to DHL (Deutsche Post DHL Group). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
8. Hosting
This website is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place. Data is stored exclusively in EU data centres.
9. Cookies, visitor statistics and reach measurement
Cookies: Technically necessary session cookies are set only during an order and deleted at the end of the session. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies or third-party analytics services (e.g. Google Analytics, Matomo).
Own reach measurement: For statistical evaluation of our offering, we collect the following data server-side — without cookies, without local storage and without accessing your device: page accessed, approximate origin based on your browser language setting (Accept-Language header), device type (mobile/tablet/computer), referring website (referrer) and time spent on page. To distinguish repeat visits within one day, we create a short hash from your IP address, browser identifier and the current date. The IP address itself is not stored; the hash is automatically deleted after no more than 24 hours. Identification of individuals is not possible. Data is processed exclusively on our server in the EU and not shared with third parties.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the statistical reach measurement of our own offering). The measurement is exempt from consent under § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (formerly TTDSG), as no cookies or comparable storage technologies are used on your device for tracking purposes.
Right to object: You can object to this processing at any time under Art. 21 GDPR — an informal email to kontakt@reusing-factory.de is sufficient. Alternatively, you can disable JavaScript in your browser; no measurement will then take place.
